La Conner

Welcome to La Conner

The intersection of pioneers, fishermen, native tribes, farmers, and entrepreneurs, picturesque La Conner is Skagit County's oldest community and one of the state's most popular tourist destinations.

Located just over Rainbow Bridge from Fidalgo Island, the town is bordered by the Swinomish Slough to the west and the agricultural-rich Skagit Valley to the east. A Victorian downtown waterfront offers views of fishing and pleasure boats and log rafts moored in Swinomish Channel alongside the main street's quaint shops, galleries, art, history and quilt museums, cozy inns, and valley-fresh restaurant offerings.

La Conner and the surrounding area have long been home to nationally known artists, many of them celebrated in the collections of the city's world-class Museum of Northwest Art.

Annual community events throughout the year reflect the town's natural bounties and handmade heritage: The Smelt Derby (February), Skagit Valley Tulip Festival (April), Opening Day Boat Parade (May), Pioneer Picnic (August), Art's Alive (November), and the Christmas Boat Parade (December) - to name just a few.

The La Conner School District sits at the heart of the La Conner community, located in northwestern Washington State, 55 miles north of Seattle and 75 miles south of Vancouver, B.C. Its boundaries include more than 100 square miles of land surrounded by the Skagit River, the Swinomish Channel, and Padilla and Skagit Bays. Serving approximately 700 students in its three schools on a central campus, the school district has benefited from a long history of dedicated community support for levies and bonds. Home of the Swinomish Tribe, La Conner School District and the Tribal Community have created cooperative programs to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes fundamental to lifelong learning, to achieve personal enrichment, and to become responsible contributing individuals in this rapidly changing and evolving society.
